Health Tip: Food Energies

Another Traditional Chinese Medicine theory is that foods give off energies, and that eating foods complementary to your energy type brings Yin and Yang into balance.

Yin and Yang

The theory is if your dog is “hot” – pants year-round, loves winter weather, walks slowly during the summer, feed her “cooling” foods.  If your dog burrows under blankets, loves to lay near the heat vents and gets stiff joints in wintertime, feed her “warming” foods.  My dog, a Samoyed, is a “hot” dog; we just started feeding her “cold” proteins to see if this helps reduce some inflammation in her lower back and hips!

Read more about energies, check out some food charts, visit, or ask your holistic veterinarian if this practice may benefit your dog.
